Classical Authentic Pilates Instruction

“Pilates reawakens ordinarily dormant muscle cells, develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.”
-Joseph H. Pilates, Return to Life Through Contrology, 1945.

Pilates is a physical conditioning system that was developed in the early part of the 20th century by Joseph Pilates. The Pilates method, originally named Contrology, focuses on the core postural muscles, which help keep the body balanced and which are essential to providing support for the spine. It improves strength, flexibility and restores balance in your body. Pilates is designed to give you suppleness, natural grace and skill that will be unmistakably reflected in the way you walk, play and work. You will develop muscular power with corresponding endurance, ability to perform arduous duties, to play strenuous games, to walk, run or travel for long distances without undue body fatigue or mental strain.

Joseph Pilaes was very much an inventor. Not only did he develop the exercises that make up the Pilates method, but he also invented the unique apparatuses to perform them on. His equipment utilizes springs for resistance. Joe began by rigging springs to hospital beds, enabling the bedridden to exercise. These machines include the Universal Reformer, Wunda Chair, High (Electric) Chair, Trap Table or Cadillac, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, Ped-O-Pul, Foot Corrector, and Magic Circle.

You can look forward to the following results from our customized, authentic Pilates:

  • Improved Posture
  • Increased Strength
  • Improved Flexibility
  • Toned Muscles
  • Improved Stabilization
  • Healthy Muscles/Joints
  • Stronger Core
  • Prevents Injuries

The Authentic Pilates Approach

Using all of the core principles below for each exercise that is performed is an ultimate Pilates approach that is proven to create results!

Centering

Physically bringing the focus to the center of the body, the powerhouse area between the lower ribs and pelvic floor.

Concentration

Focusing on the movement before any muscle activation occurs. This creates an ultimate mind-body connection, then using the mind to activate muscles that support the movement creating a deeper and more effective result or benefit.

Control

Every Pilates exercise is done with complete control from the inside out. This allows joints, weaknesses, and injured areas to rest while stabilizing the total body.

Precision

Through precision, muscle response is strengthened and more efficient movement is created. This translates into increased endurance and stamina in everyday activities. Precision leads to proper form, which leads to injury prevention.

Breath

Breath is important for a total mind-body connection. Breathing is one of the most important parts of exercising, thinking, or even simply relaxing. The deeper the breath, the healthier the mind and body can function. Each exercise in Pilates is coordinated with a breathing style to train the body to move deeper with a flowing breath.

Flow

Pilates aims for elegant efficiency of movement in your workout, creating flow. Once precision has been achieved, the exercises are intended to flow within and into each other in order to build strength, increase stamina, and promote wellness.
